It wasn’t long before the guy signing with his guitar in the middle of the stage realized that he was going to need a boom Stand, to rest his mic on.

Now whilst it’s easy to pick up a microphone and sing into it, (it’s easy to sing into it, getting it to sound good is the hard part ), picking a decent boom stand is a bit more difficult. For example people who are going to be using it for something like public speaking will have different needs from a recording artist.

The first thing to consider is the base. There are generally two types of base that are used for a boom stand. They are either a cast iron disk, or a fold able tripod. The tripod is lot lighter and easier to moved around, so it could be a preferred option for work in a studio, or other similar area. The disk is a lot sturdier and can’t be knocked over in the same way that a tripod can, so it’s much better suited for the a stage.

People should also decide whether they might benefit from a desk, or a low profile microphone boom stand. As it sounds the desk version is for use on a desk, (or another similar object), and the low profile boom stand is used from a seated position, for example as would be used by a guitarist.

A step up from the boom stand would probably be the studio boom. It’s more adjustable and can pretty much be altered for all situations. There is a second boom that is connected to the first one, and can actually allow the microphone to hang from an overhead position. Great for singers.

Once people have got their choice of boom stands sorted, then they need to start taking a look around for the best prices. The Internet is definitely a good place to begin doing this. Well, not just for beginning, but for actually making a purchase too.
